Should I upgrade from the EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM?
The EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM replaces the EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM, bringing a completely new optical design.
Sharp images, corner to corner
Reductions in chromatic aberration have been made across the focal range. In the telephoto range, improvements have been made to correct general distortion, whilst pincushion distortion has been significantly reduced in the close-up range.
More robust, durable construction and improved operability
The EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM has made great gains in durability due to superior structure and improved shake/shock resistance of the lens barrel. The new zoom lock lever secures the zoom position at the extreme wide end, preventing damage during transit.
Increased environmental protection
Resistant to the harshest conditions, every care has been taken to engineer a solution that prevents dust and moisture from penetrating the body of the lens.
Excellent ease of handling
The non-rotating front element of this lens means you do not have to readjust the filter after changing focus or zoom when using a polarizing filter or filter holder.
The increase to a 9-blade diaphragm gives a more circular aperture and smoother bokeh.
